In an interview, Seth Grahame-smith was asked if the upcoming movie would be a direct sequel set in the 21st century. Here is what he responded “Yeah, that’s inevitably going to be a part of it, since it is going to be 27 or 28 years after the first film. You wonder what happened to those characters, how times have changed, and how Beetlejuice 2 would interact with them. Right now it’s in the ‘we’ll see’ stage”
