The roller coaster of Attack on Titan has finally come to an end that has left the fans in absolute shock. The viewers were not expecting how it ended. The anime was dark from the begining, so it was already expected that it won’t have a happy ending anyway. But still, the final chapter of AOT has left us empty from inside. In this article, I will answer some of the confusing questions, because it was not clear in the series.

Attack on Titan season 4 has total 32 episodes. The fist part consists of 16 episodes, the second part has 12 episodes and the last two episodes with two chapters in each was recently droped. Attack on Titan season 4 part 1 was released on December 7, 2020 and final episode of the part was droped in March 29, 2021. The second part of Attack on Titan season 4 was released in January 10 2022 and the final episode of the part in April 4, 2022. Attack on Titan season 4 part 3, the final two episode were droped in November 2023.

When they finally came outside the walls by the end of season 3, Eren had already realized that the outside world is nothing like they had imagined. People were more cruel than the titans, whom Eren hated the most. Eren finds out that the other nations are united with Marley to destroy Paradis or what they called “Devils of the Island”. Eren knew, either it’s kill or be killed, that is why he had to take that difficult decision, otherwise the war would never end and all of his friends would eventually end up being dead. Attack on Titan season 4 is a complex series of events that unfolds over time. It is hard to read Eren’s intentions in the begining of Attack on Titan season 4.
Everything Eren did was to protect his friends and the Paradis. When he came outside of the walls, he saw how Eldiens were being treated by other people. He just wanted justice which could only be achieved by destroying them.
Another reason why Eren made that choice is that he wanted to stop the cycle of hatred. In other words, he didn’t want to pass on his titan power to anyone, as he says to his friends in season 3, that he won’t pass it to any of his friends because they are important to him. He had once said that he will annihilate all the titans from the world and that’s what he did, including himself. He already knew his friends would stop him and he wanted them to kill him.

Attack On Titan Season 4 Final Episode: Special 2
In the final episode, Eren’s plans were reveled. It was not just to protect Paradis that he started the rumbling, but he also wanted to be killed by his friends, so that he won’t have to pass his titan on to anyone, as it would never end the cycle of hatred. He had promised that he would annihilate all the titans from the world, and he did, including himself.
The Attack Titan is one of the nine titans. It has the ability to see the future and past. Eren could see the past memories of his father and also the glimpse of his own future. It was not like he could see everything and how would it happen. Eren would just get the rough idea and he didn’t have full control over the events.
When did Eren started to see the future? It’s when he touched Historia’s hand, a royal blood, he got the idea of what was coming up. He didn’t get it completely how and what exactly will happen, but he knew the future already. When the survey corps brought Eren back to Paradis from libario, they found out that Eren was a totally different person. But in fact, in all that time, Eren has been communicating with all of his friends but then erasing the memories of their conversation.
With Armin and Mikasa, he started from the very begining, when they were kids, he travels back in time and starts from there. He tells everything to Armin and continues that till the very end. With Mikasa, he reveals his feelings. So, all this time, Armin and Mikasa have been talking to the ‘Eren from the future’, but Eren would erase the memories of their conversation everytime. They remember all of that when Eren dies at the end, as every kind of titan power is gone from the world, so their memories come back.
So why did Eren kept going if he already knew the future? Eren could only see a glimps of future, he wasn’t able to see how and what exactly were the events going to take place. He didn’t have full control over the events and he couldn’t change them by will. As for why Eren kept going, it was to protect his friends and Paradis which was the driving force behind Eren’s action.
Why did Eren let his mother eaten by the Titan? In the destruction of wall maria, Eren from the future was watching it all happen. At that time, Eren’s goal was to eliminate the humanity outside the walls so he wanted his younger self to be motivated to eradicate all the titans, that is why he made the sarifice. The titan was about to eat Barethold, so it was also one of the reasons why Eren had to take action.
Why did Eren said that he hates Mikasa? He wanted them to kill him. He knew that his friends will have to take action when he starts the rumbling. He wanted them to overcome their emotions so that they will be able to kill him. That is why he told Mikasa that he hates her and also picked up fight with Armin. He was making things easier for them. He didn’t want them to side with him. At this point Eren was making a great sacrifice to eliminate the discrimination between Eldians and others and to eradicate all the titans form the world.
Did Mikasa move on after Eren’s death? It’s certain that Mikasa never forgets Eren. It is shown in the end that she keeps visiting Eren’s grave, and then with her husband, and later with her family, and then as old. It seems that she lived a long and healthy life but she never completely forgot Eren.
The ending of Attack on Tiatn is dark, sad, and very emotional. The yeagerists still support what Eren did was right. Well, it is right when seen through Eren’s perspective and also when seen through others’. What Eren did was to protect his people by killing other, and the others wanted to find another way. Eren saw no other way expect to make a huge sacrifice, which was understood by all of his friends when he died and their memories were back.
