By the end of the original series, The Vampire Diaries, Damon Salvatore was human after his brother Stefan Salvatore injected him with the cure. Damon makes no appearance in The Originals. However, Damon’s brother, Stefan, makes an entry to the show and plays a quite surprisingly satisfying role. Many fans were still wondering about the fate of Elena and Damon after the show ended. Well, for those who are still looking for the confirmation, here is your answer to what happened to Damon and Elena? Damon and Elena get married and have a daughter who they named after Stefan Salvatore, Stefanie Salvatore. Their marriage is confirmed in The Originals in one of the scenes where they showed a signed paper which wrote “Elena Salvatore, M.D.” This was to tell everyone that Elena and Damon have had a happy ending to their story.
How does Damon become human?
Stefan was on his way to kill Elena so that Damon won’t have to switch his humanity back. Stefan ends up killing Enzo right in front of Bonnie. Since, Stefan’s humanity was off, he didn’t think even for a second that he will never be able to forgive himself for what he was doing. Bonnie had to stop him or otherwise she too was going to end up being dead. Bonnie takes the cure and injects Stefan with it. He was a human now and that bought back his humanity and emotions. We can imagine what it would have been like to him when he realized.
The badass bitch had already returned to Mystic Falls. You guessed it right, Kathrine Pierce. Damon had decided to sacrifice himself to save the town and his love, Elena Gilbert. But Stefan didn’t let it happen and did the job himself. The last scene was an epic and very emotional scene and it had us in tears. Of course, Salvatore brothers would never let each other die. Since Stefan was a human, Damon compelled him to leave the tunnels so that he could hold Katherine tight and die with her to safe the town. However, Stefan knew this was gonna happen and he had already took some vervain. Since, Stefan had the cure in his blood and he injects Damon with his blood and turns him back into a human after he had turned him into a vampire 178 years ago. This is how Damon becomes a human again. Bonnie then breaks the spell and Elena comes back into life. She and Damon both being humans, continue to live a normal life.
