Why did Ross get so mad when Rachel Said “but if time was what you needed to gain a little perspective..” Well it started with Rachel’s letter for Ross before they got together again. It was 18 pages and Ross fell asleep while reading it and didn’t finish it. He didn’t read the important part where Rachel had mentioned that he should take responsibility for their past breakup and even sleeping with Chloe. He tells Rachel that he agrees with everything she has written in the latter without even finishing it. When Ross gets to know what actually was written in the letter, he immediately disagrees. But still he tries to hold on to that because he didn’t want to lose Rachel again.
So when they were in Bed, they tell each other how they missed being together. Everything was fine until Rachel brings up the letter topic. She tells him that she was so nervous about it but Ross agreed to everything and it made her feel so good. But Ross knows that he doesn’t agree with it at all. Rachel also says that her mom doesn’t trust him and says “Once a cheater, always a cheater”. This got Ross mad because he thinks he is not a cheater and they were on a break. Rachel continues saying “but if time was what you needed to gain a little perspective..” this was actually Rachel confirming that Ross actually cheated by sleeping with Chloe, and after 4 months he realized that he was wrong and that’s why he agreed with the letter. This got Ross so mad that he shouted “We were on a break!” to defend himself and claim that he didn’t cheated on her.

Was Rachel fair to Ross when she said “but if time was what you needed to gain a little perspective..”
This could be a solid argument because the whole “We were on a break” thing revolves around it. However, if we look back at their breakup it was clearly because Rachel said that she wanted a break from their relationship. And the face Ross made when she said that, he clearly thought she was breaking up with him. But Rachel didn’t mean it. Later, she tells Monica about how stupid it was to say that and says “I don’t want a break”. But to Ross it was a breakup. So, he was devastated and hooked up with a random girl. But when he finds out about Rachel being sorry, his happiness had no limits but deep down he knew he screwed up. He does everything he can to keep it from Rachel but eventually she finds out and breaks up with him for real this time.
So, this is where “we were on a break” debate comes up. Ross claims that they were on a break but Rachel says that it was just a stupid fight and Ross should have never slept with that girl. So Rachel mentions this in the letter and asks Ross to accept that it was his fault. It had been four months since their break up. So Rachel says “but if time was what you needed to gain a little perspective..” meaning that it took Ross some time to finally realize that he was wrong about the whole “we were on a break ” thing. This got Ross so mad that he shouted “we were on a break” and everyone heard him. This got them fighting again and obviously, breaking up again.
But overall, Ross and Rachel are the most iconic couples in the entire series. Friends has been one of the greatest shows of all time. It has inspired generations and made us laugh our lungs out.
